Abstract

Over the past decade, tourism has become so closely integrated with sports and recreation as they represent an integral part of the overall tourist activity. Thus, the sport activity and recreation should be taken as priorities, and much should be done to further develop this field of tourism. The Global tourist market today includes approximately 300 million people, and it generates revenues that go past the 100 million dollars mark, a year. The universal tourist body is estimated to soon grow to close to half a billion people. As such, it represents an enormous earning potential for Montenegrin tourism, having in mind its attractive nature and abundant resources. This calls for all the subjects of Montenegrin tourism industry to modernize its tourist offer on all levels, to suit demands of the modern market. The modernization process should include programs that involve sports and recreation. In order to improve and modernize the conditions for sports and recreational activities, it is critical and almost binding to invest in construction of athletic centres (gyms, courts, etc.) that would offer a wide range of activities. This should be the case in all the regions of the country; and activities should therefore be adjusted to specific environments and needs of each region. Along with the modernization of the tourist offer (when it comes to athletic and recreational activities), goes the quality and level of service. A professional service requires certified staff, with a variety of educational backgrounds that are trained and equipped to assist with all the needs that the modernization process should require (from planning to maintenance), and also enrich the tourist offer.
